A customer found our Business Card at our local Tandy Leather store and called to see if I would be able to make some ammo pouches for his ARC Trooper costume as he is very much into Cosplay. He said that he had called a couple of other leather workers in the area but they evidently were not interested in something custom like this. I told him that I would be happy to take a look and see what I could do for him. He provided me with pictures of what he was looking for and I had him provide me with the dimensions of the items so that I could construct patterns for them.
Once he provided the dimensions that he wanted, I got out my engineering ruler and pencil and went to work. I then proceeded to make a prototype of one of the small boxes, which I now use in my shop. I used 2-3 ounce leather and created the large magazine pouch and the two belt boxes and dyed them with a Black Waterstain and assemble them with black rivets. They turned out very nicely and I told him that when I create something like this, I like to make it functional as well as visual. So, while he is in his costume, he could put a wallet in one of the boxes, a phone in the large ammo pouch and keys or whatever in the other box as they would be functional as well as decorative on his costume.
I enjoyed seeing his face when he came to pick them up, he loved them. That's why I do this.
Until next time, All the best.
