knife sheath for handmade vietnamese knife

This unique leather knife sheath was created for a customer who had asked me to make one similar to the worn out original (shown in the bottom picture). His story on the knife and sheath was that his father brought it back from Vietnam many years ago and he wanted to update the sheath as a gift for his father. ​

After creating a custom template using the original knife sheath, I assembled the sheath and did a stitch around the edge of the sheath and rivets to make the sheath look as close to the original as possible. As I do with all of the leather knife sheaths that I make, a welt was added around the edge of the knife sheath to protect the stitching from the knife blade as well as to protect the knife blade from the rivets.  The customer chose an alternate color which complimented the knife nicely. A grommet as added at the end of the sheath to accommodate a leather strip to secure the knife sheath to the leg.
