Recently, I received a call from a lady asking if I could make a "leather clasp" for a watch. The watch was for her son's girlfriend who had very small wrists. The original clasp caused her problems keeping it on her wrist so that she could see the clock face without having to reposition the watch. She sent me pictures of the watch (below) and asked me if I had any thoughts. I told her that I might have an idea of what to do for a leather clasp but I would need the watch and possibly the young lady present to make sure the watch fits comfortably on her wrist.
The lady's son and his girlfriend brought the watch to me and I looked it over and came up with the idea seen below. The concern was that I wanted her to be able to put it on and take off as easily as possible without sacrificing the integrity of the leather clasp. I had some remnant oil-tanned Bison, which is probably one of the most comfortable skins for a bracelet or watch band, and proceeded to fashion the leather clasp as shown below. After several measurements and adjustments on her wrist to determine where to put the snap so as to be comfortable for her, we finally came up with the leather clasp shown below. I left a bit of a tongue at the end to make it easy for her to unsnap the leather clasp and that tongue tucked away nicely in the watch loop so that it would not dangle while she wore the watch. Both the lady's son and his girlfriend were very pleased with the solution and told me that they enjoyed the show as I hand cut and punched the leather while they watched. What with Covid having caused all of our craft shows to be cancelled, it is nice that people are finding us in online searches to be able to provide solutions such as this one using our experience with leather. Got a Handle on your Beer? How about your can of Soda? Here is one of our most popular items.
As you may be able to tell, we are KC Chiefs fans. I made this Arrowhead Leather Can Koozie with Handle for my wife for last year's Superbowl, and the Chiefs WON! Okay, back to the Koozie with a handle. "It's the Handle that makes the difference." It is surprising how much lighter the can feels with this handle and the Velcro Tab makes it easier to remove the empty can. The picture shows that you can also tighten the koozie around a bottle of beer as well, which I did while watching the Chiefs win against Miami to become the #1 Seed in the AFC. But I digress ... Also, since leather is a natural insulator, these Koozies will help keep your beer or soda cool and your hand comfortable while sitting out on the deck with friends. Great for Barbecues or just having a beer with a quiet dinner. We also have an Antique Basketweave Brown Koozie, and an Arrowhead Red Koozie. We have also created Koozies with collegiate mascots on them. Let us know what interests you and we will see what we can do. Until next time, All the best. Frank, the KC Leather Guy Had a customer purchase our last Minimalist CC Wallet which was Black. Then he called and asked for a Dark Brown one for his Pops for Christmas. So, I decided to make a few more to replenish our Wallets Display.
The wallets are made using 2/3 oz Veg Tan cowhide and the lining leather is Glazed Pigskin as well as the pocket separators. There are four credit card slots, two on each side of the wallet. They are great for holding a Driver's Licence, Credit Card, Insurance card, etc. You can hide a few dollars and even keep a locker key or car key in this small wallet interior. The wallet is small enough to keep in your sock or small zipper pocket while out running or any other activity where a bulky wallet gets in the way. These holders are strong and durable while still being very lightweight and will last for years to come. Different colors are available as are various textures or you can have your wallet hand-tooled with the design of your choice. Let us know what color or texture interests you. Until next time, All the best. Frank, the KC Leather Guy |
