Our son came to me and asked if I could make him a holster for his new S&W 9 Shield pistol. I don't make a lot of holsters but, as you know, I love to create new products. So, I created a pattern by drawing around the outside of the pistol along with a flap and added 1/2 inch to the portion that would surround the pistol in order to make sure that there was enough room for stitching, enough length for the flap to snap and a snug fit for the pistol in the holster.
After a good dying, with Black dye (even though the picture looks more purple, I think that was our new Flashery that did that) and about 4 coats of Acrylic Resolene to protect the holster, I attached a clip. The clip was set at the angle that he wanted so that the pistol would point back away from his feet and the handle would be forward enough for a comfortable grab to withdraw the pistol from the holster. I also, as always, cover the base of the rivets on the inside with a thin piece of pigskin to prohibit the possibility of any scratching. Finally, I added a half inch piece of 3 ounce leather that was long enough to span the length of the stitch line so as to act as a spacer to give ample room for the trigger frame. After hand stitching the holster, measuring and attaching the snap on the holster and the flap, the pistol fit nice and snug in the holster. I was please with it and our son said that it turned out great. Until next time, All the best. Frank, the Leather Guy

This product is the 8x10 version of our Leather Picture Frames sans the inspirational words, as requested by the customer. When she saw our 4x6 leather picture frames she immediately asked about 8x10 frames for her home. I said that we certainly could do that for her and I set about redesigning our 4x6 frames for 8x10 photos. I used the same 6 ounce leather for the back and 2-3 ounce leather for the front frame and, of course, everything is hand stitched. The outside dimensions are 13 inches by 11 inches and the inside dimensions are 7-1/2 x 9-1/2 inches. The window is made of 30 mil clear plastic to protect the photo and these have no easels as the customer said they would only be hanging on the wall. All leather easels are available, just FYI.
Here is what she had to say about the three 8 x 10 inch leather picture frames that we made for her, "I am IN LOVE with these custom leather picture frames from American Leather Crafts. They look fantastic in my home and I look forward to having them for a long time to come! Frank and Karen bent over backwards to make sure everything is just right! Thank you!" What a smile that brought to my face. Again, this is why I do what I do. Until next time, All the best. Frank, the Leather Guy Our CosPlay customer, who found us through Tandy Leather, liked the Ammo pouches that I made for him so much that he asked if I would be willing to make these pouches for him from a picture that he sent me via email. He likes to challenge me with various items made from leather that he wants to use to build his Arc Trooper costume. He provided the dimensions that he wanted for these pouches, so, with those in hand, I sat down again with my engineering ruler and pencil and went to work.
I used the picture to scale the dimensions and estimate the individual dimensions of each piece of the pouch. I determined that the body of the pouch would be constructed of two pieces of leather, one Black and one a grayish Silver. The Silver piece would reach all the way down and be glued inside the Black piece and all held together with black rivets at the back of the pouch. The pouch lid would function just like it looks with 4 silver rivets at the back and velcro, instead of snaps, glued and stitched to hold the flap at the front. The stitches are covered by the two bars on the front, which were also shown in the picture. I added belt loops on the back of the pouches as he requested. When he came to pick them up he said that really liked them. I must admit that they did turn out rather nicely and completely functional as well. Until next time, All the best.
